The All Progressives Congress Forum of Chairmen, in the South-East
geopolitical zone of the country, has said that the party will take
over power in the five states of the zone in 2019.
The forum comprising of APC party chairmen in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo
and Enugu states respectively made the declaration in Abakaliki during
the party’s zonal meeting on Saturday.
Addressing party stalwarts during the
event held at the Adig Hotels, Owerri, Imo State, the APC chairman, Dr.
Hillary Eke, said the party had all it takes to clinch all elective
positions in the zone in the 2019 general elections.
“We have resolved to work assiduously to
ensure the victory of the APC during the next elections; we are going
round the zone to make sure that the APC is intact.”
“The party recognised Chief Ben Nwaobasi as the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, our mission is to strengthen the party and reposition it,” he said.
Eke added, “The PDP is still in Ebonyi State not because people like them and voted for them, God has given you the opportunity in 2019, you have what is called federal might. Nobody can come to your house again and whisk you away.”
In their separate speeches, the APC
chairmen for Anambra, Abia and Enugu states, Emeka Ibe, Donatus Nwaba,
and Dr. Ben Nwoye respectively, boasted that the APC would “conquer the
South-East in 2019.”
“We don’t want one party system and our President has said it severally and we will not be a part of it, but we will win the South-East’s states in 2019 because when the PDP was in power, we were regarded as visitors, we were regarded as renegades but now we are in charge,” Ibe said.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the
Ebonyi State Chairman of the party, Nwobasi, had commended the party
chieftains for attending the dinner, adding that the meeting had
strengthened the APC.
He assured them that he would continue to carry members of the party along in all his dealings.
In his contribution, the National
Coordinator of the Buhari/Osinbanjo Initiative for demonstrative
Change, Chinedu Ogah, described the APC as an organised party with good
programmes and policies that would better the lot of the masses.
He declared that there was no division
in the APC in Ebonyi State, describing such insinuation as the handiwork
of mischief makers.
“Nwaobasi remains the chairman of the party in the state, and I urge the public not to be deceived by the negative tendencies of some people,” he noted.
Chieftains of the party that attended
the event included Senator Emmanuel Agboti, renowned banker, Mr. Mike
Chukwu, and a former member of the House of Representatives, Peter Edeh.
